SciFi and Fantasy Art Ankaa by Shelz Keast

Ankaa is the only named star in the constellation Phoenix. It coresponds to Alpha Phoenicis. Apparently the name comes from a modern corruption of the Arab word for Phoenix. The eight stars vissible in the picture correspond to the stars of the constellation, which is supposed to be of a bird (phoenix) raising its wings in flight. The rest of the picture is bassed on nebulae. Technically there arn't any in or near the Phoenix, but I wanted to draw pretties. Time taken aproximately 2 hours. Done in Deep Paint, can never seem to do any remotely half decent space art in Photoshop.

Shelz Keast replies: "Well I did have some lovely photoreferences to use (they also helped to jog the imagination). Strictly speaking this is a round two, the last one was two Christmasses ago."
4 Jul 2008	Dave Cripps	Loading... Photoshop is good for doing the planets Reminds me of that huge one people keep saying they saw Jesus in. Is the whole thing a little dark? Or is my famously funny screen playing up? Shelz Keast replies: "Might be a bit of both with that darkness. My laptop, which is what it was done on, is a bit bright. Photoshop elements lacks the texture brushes that make planet making a heck of a lot easier."
